Viable Bone Matrix for Spine and Orthopedic Procedures.
Fiber Viable Bone Matrix
Fiber Viable Bone Matrix (VBM) is made of cancellous bone particles with preserved cells combined with demineralized cortical fiber produced via Aziyo’s gentle proprietary VBM process.
The Aziyo Advantage
Aziyo has developed a proprietary processing methodology for human tissue that creates VBM allografts that contain the scaffold, growth factors and cells required for regeneration. Aziyo has designed the process to protect native elements of bone, including growth factors and osteoprogenitor cells that are known to be biologically active and critical for successful bone formation.2
Bone Regeneration Elements Preserved.
The 3 Essential Elements
Cells capable of differentiating to bone cell lineage and synthesizing bone matrices.
Bioactive growth factors capable of inducing osteoblast differentiation, growth and maturation.
Scaffolds cued as substrate for supporting cellular activities and bone matrix organization.
Optimized Cellular Health to Improve Osteogenesis.
Typical VBM tissue processes may include steps that can increase apoptosis (cell death) and reduce osteogenic potential.3,4,5 Aziyo’s proprietary gentle VBM process minimizes damaged, apoptotic (dying) cells resulting in VBMs that proliferate faster than competitive products, which is associated with greater osteogenic potential.2
Industry standard methods for cell counting cannot distinguish between living and dying (apoptotic) cells in the final product, leading to overestimates in the viable cell content of bone matrices. Aziyo has developed a measurement system which can demonstrate the reduction in apoptotic cell content of its products.2

Aziyo’s proprietary processing also addresses the need for optimizing the osteoinductivity of cellular bone matrices. Processing parameters are designed to maximize availability of the natural growth factors in bone resulting in bone formation.1

Aziyo’s proprietary VBM processing produces a natural 3-dimensional scaffold for bone formation (conduction) at the implant site.2
Unique handling properties support ease of placement at implant site.
Inter-operative Ease of Use
- No decanting decreases prep and thaw time
- Thaws in 5-30 minutes*
- No rinsing prior to implantation
* dependent on allograft volume
