Laboratory Support Technician

Position Overview

This position is a key member of the Aziyo Biologics team and as such is involved in executing the Company’s short- term goals and objectives as it relates to lab support.

The Laboratory Support Technician (LST) performs functions that allow for successful and efficient processing of high quality allografts, human tissue for transplantation.  These allografts are used in medical and surgical procedures to help physicians and their patients address various medical conditions.  The LST supports production operations in accordance with Aziyo’s established standard operating procedures (SOPs).  The LST is a key part of the process to ensure each donor’s Gift is honored by the highest level of performance and seeking continual improvement opportunities to optimize its usage.

Position reports to Manager, Production.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform cleaning of work areas, including controlled environments, and reset rooms and supplies for subsequent processing runs according to training and following SOPs and established work instructions.
  • Clean, prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment.
  • Operates an autoclave in a controlled environment and stocks and maintains the work area. Maintains an accurate sterilization log.
  • Maintains production supplies inside and outside of controlled environments.
  • Perform tasks while following Good Tissue Practices and Good Documentation Procedures.
  • Provide QA and Microbiology departments all information needed for release of tissue.
  • Contributes to the development of work instructions, batch records, equipment logs and other documents.
  • Ensure adequate inventory of supplies used.
  • Maintains equipment logs.
  • Assist with routine calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Maintains legible and accurate documentation on all hard copy forms related to production.
  • Work in a team oriented atmosphere and display courtesy and consideration to peers and staffs.
  • Perform special projects, single tasks or other related work as required or requested.
  • Contributes new ideas or techniques which may result in better service or improved quality of Aziyo products.
  • Ability to competently and safely perform duties using Universal Precautions in the presence of potential bloodborne pathogens (BBP).
  • Perform repetitive movements for extended periods of time.
  • Safely handle materials stored at – 80°C and on dry ice. Performs tasks in a safe manner in compliance with all current Aziyo/NPC SOP’s, training, and safety policies and applicable regulations.
  • Responsible for following guidelines for safe working environment and report unsafe conditions to supervisor.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelors or Associate Degree preferred. Autoclave Sterilization certification is strongly preferred.

Experience and Skills

  • 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Possess strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing critical judgment and analytical skills.
  • Works well under pressure with strict deadlines.
  • Solid PC and data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment, while maintaining cooperative working relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all records and information, which pertains to donors, families, employees, the organization and related areas.
  • Works well under pressure with strict deadlines.
  • Available and adaptable to working fluctuating schedules, including weeknights, weekends, holidays and overtime as required.

Physical Requirements

  • Must have the ability to lift 50 lbs. or more.
  • Some operations require bending, standing long hours, pushing and/or pulling objects to a machine or/on a cart.
  • Ability to distinguish colors.
